In August 2008, Twitter.com stopped sending SMS tweets to all users outside of the USA, Canada and India. We love Twitter, and had used its SMS facility for a long time. When this was stopped, we had no option but to remain disconnected, or do something about it.
Twitter explained why they stopped the service, citing costs of about $1,000 per user, per year! Having worked on large-scale SMS projects before, we were fully aware of the costs involved. But would people be willing to pay to receive their tweets? We know we would.
We set out to create a service that is affordable, easy to use, and highly customisable. After all, we wouldn't want to pay to receive tweets from people we weren't interested in! So, we created a highly flexible third-party Twitter application to deliver your tweets by SMS directly to your mobile phone!
We would love to be able to do this for free, but unfortunately, it costs us money. The good news is, we have relationships with mobile providers around the world, and we've been able to secure some of the cheapest rates for SMS delivery.
